Church Leadership
The New Testament reveals a simple model for government for the church. The Bible is our authority in all things. Elders (also called bishops or shepherds) oversee the work of the church, and are assisted by deacons. (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Philippians 1:1).
ELDERS / SHEPHERDS / OVERSEERS
"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood" (Acts 20:28). The qualifications for elders are found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Airport Church is blessed to have Chris Walsh and Mike Matthews currently serving as elders, or shepherds.
DEACONS / SERVANTS
The word deacon means a servant. The qualifications for deacons are found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Deacons are specially appointed servants who assist the elders and serve the congregation. We are fortunate to have 5 men serving as deacons. The Deacons at Airport Church are Glenn Blecher, Steven Cliatt, Jerry Cleek, Ed Painter and John Collier.
PREACHER
The preachers role is summed up in 2 Timothy 4:2 - "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction".
Jerry Cleek is supported by the Airport Church to preach and teach the Bible. You can contact him to have a Bible study or to ask a question by clicking here.
